Pietro Cuomo, founding partner of the Cugia Cuomo & Associati Law Firm, has strong experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate and commercial transactions, real estate, banking and finance, international and European law.

As an M&A expert, he developed his professional practice at Clifford Chance as well as at Carnelutti Law Firm and McDermott, Will & Emery (Rome office), being Corporate Partner since 2000, in particular, as a consultant to multinational companies and investment funds within the context of M&A, real estate and financial transactions, internationalizations of private enterprises and strategic development of foreign markets, as well as within reorganizations and implementations of strategic initiatives. He also gained significant experience in company reorganizations related to the hotel and resort industry.

Pietro regularly represents private equity funds, corporations and state-owned entities with the acquisition, development, disposition and lease of commercial and residential real estate properties, offices and industrial premises. Particularly, he can boast significant experience in company reorganizations related to the hotel and resort industry.

During his M&A experience, Pietro acquired a sound knowledge of the fashion industry and market and currently assists designers, manufacturers, agents, distributors and importers with their worldwide business development and related trademark, design and other intangible assets protection and enforcement issues. He is head of the Fashion department of the Firm.

Pietro is Contract Lecturer in International Law at the University of Perugia and lectures on a regular basis in favour of the University for Foreign Students of Perugia in International Humanitarian Law.

Moreover, he is especially well versed on the subject of primary and secondary legislation alignment, particularly in reference to accessing European Union Member States in PHARE and TACIS EU alignment programs.  In 2016,  Pietro took part in USAID’s Financial Access for Investing in the Development of Afghanistan (FAIDA) program. He was appointed FAIDA Regulatory Team Leader and provided in-country the Afghan government with legal and regulatory advice at a macro level in: the advocacy of the new Banking Law and related Regulations over their Parliament approval constitutional procedure;  the issuing of new legislative and regulatory Banking & Finance frameworks; the coordination of major Banking & Finance Afghan regulatory bodies (Ministry of Finance and Afghan Central Bank); the development of PPP/Project Finance methodologies for the benefit of commercial banks; and the provision of corporate governance guidance as a basis for the development of Afghan commercial banks corresponding relationships. He concluded his project in March 2017.

Pietro is the author of several publications focusing on corporate and commercial law. He has been repeatedly recommended by European Legal Experts as a leading corporate and commercial lawyer. He is a member of the International Bar Association.
